How do you fly to Chester races?

Helicopter charter to Chester Racecourse uses Hawarden Airport, on the Welsh side of the border and a short drive from the course. Hawarden has a 2,093 metre grooved runway, a dedicated business aviation facility and published hours of 08:00 to 21:00 on weekdays and 08:30 to 18:00 at weekends, with customs by arrangement on 24 hours of notice. Prior permission is required. We do not hold a landing site at the racecourse itself, so a car completes the journey.

Charter-A Helicopter is the helicopter charter service of Charter-A Ltd, which has arranged private flights across the UK and Europe since 2011. Landing closer to the Roodee, or at a private house nearby, would need the owner's permission, subject to landing permission and site suitability. We ask first. See helicopter charter Chester for the airport page.

The May meeting and corporate racing

Chester's May Festival is one of the best-known early-season meetings in the north, and the track's tight turns and city-wall setting make for a distinctive day. Tickets, enclosures and hospitality come from the racecourse; we arrange the travel. Cheshire has a large corporate base in finance, pharmaceuticals and engineering, and a race day is a common client event.

See horse racing by helicopter for the wider picture and Aintree for the Grand National. Business helicopter charter explains the process.

Planning notes

Arrive 10 minutes before departure, supply weights and keep bags soft. Chester's meetings are well attended and the roads around the city are slow, so we plan a margin for the transfer. If the flight is cancelled because of the weather, you pay nothing.

Executive Global Travel can arrange cars. See the North West England page for the region.
