Where can you charter a helicopter in the East of England?
The region's sites divide into the London-facing airports in the south and the independent regional airfields in the north and east. All require prior permission.
- Stansted is open 24 hours, 365 days a year, with customs on site and a 3,049 m runway. Every flight needs a slot, and the handling agent is mandatory.
- Luton is also 24 hours with customs on site, with slots and a nominated handler for every flight; we book both with your flight.
- Southend runs a jet centre daily 06:00 to 02:30, but private helicopters are not permitted at night, and the night restrictions run from 23:00 to 06:30.
- Cambridge publishes weekday hours only, with no air traffic service at weekends unless arranged. The site was sold in June 2026 and the airport is due to relocate by mid-2029, so we verify operating status before every booking.
- Norwich Airport has customs on site and an 1,842 m runway, but shorter winter hours: from November to April it closes at 21:30 on weekdays and 20:00 on Saturdays.
Cranfield in Bedfordshire, on the Milton Keynes side, opens 06:30 to 19:00 daily with remote customs on 24 hours' notice, and is covered with Milton Keynes.
How fast is a helicopter across the East?

What do people in the East of England fly for?
Cambridge is the region's defining business draw, with science parks, biotech and technology firms clustered around the city, many with investors and partners in London and the Midlands. Norwich supports insurance, finance and energy business, and the Norfolk coast has offshore energy interests. Our business helicopter charter page explains how a day trip is planned.
Racing is a significant second driver. Newmarket, the home of British horseracing, is about 10 to 15 minutes from Cambridge and 15 to 20 from Stansted; see horse racing by helicopter. Check dates with the organiser, and expect landing arrangements to be subject to permission.
Norfolk and Suffolk also have shooting estates, and shooting by helicopter explains how guns, cartridges and weights are handled. For secure movements of principals between country homes and airports, see secure helicopter transport.

Which city pages cover the East of England?
Each page below goes deeper into sites and hours:
- Helicopter charter Cambridge
- Helicopter charter Norwich
- Helicopter charter Stansted

Stansted, Luton and Southend also feature on the London and Home Counties page because many passengers use them as London airports, and the rest of the home counties is there too. Farther north, see the Midlands and Yorkshire and the Humber.
Planning around early closes and slots
The two things that catch travellers out in this region are slots at the big London-facing airports and early weekday closes at the smaller ones. At Stansted and Luton, a slot is requested through the handler, and last-minute flights depend on availability. At Cambridge and Norwich, a late meeting can push a return flight past closing time, and out-of-hours movements may carry extra charges or may not be accepted at all. We plan return times with the closing time in mind and, where necessary, route you to a 24-hour airport such as Stansted instead. For the full set of sites, see the UK heliports and airfields directory and the national guide at helicopter charter UK. In short, helicopter charter east of england is a mix of 24-hour London airports and weekday-only regional fields.
