Which airfield do we use for a helicopter from Hull?
For helicopter charter Hull clients, the starting point is simple. The city sits on the north bank of the Humber, and the nearest site with business facilities is Humberside Airport at Kirmington, on the south side of the estuary in North Lincolnshire. It is a licensed airport with a 2,200 metre runway, customs and immigration on site, and a handling agent that deals with private and corporate flights.
Charter-A Helicopter is the helicopter charter service of Charter-A Ltd, which has arranged private flights across the UK and Europe since 2011. For Hull we book the helicopter, ask for prior permission to land, and tell you exactly where to be and when.
The airport publishes its hours as roughly 06:20 to 21:15, and movements outside those times need prior permission. The handling desk keeps shorter hours, 08:00 to 18:00, and extensions can be arranged for an extra cost. If your meeting runs late, tell us when you book and we will ask for the extension in advance rather than at the last minute.

Helicopter figures are typical block times: distance at 135 knots plus 8 minutes, shown as a range. Road figures are free-flowing road times, a floor that real journeys rarely beat. Distances are in a straight line. Figures from our UK route data, checked 29 Sep 2026.
How quickly can you leave Hull by helicopter?
From Humberside the key numbers are short. York is about 20 to 25 minutes by helicopter and 1 hour 15 minutes by road. Leeds takes 25 to 35 minutes against 1 hour 38 minutes by car. Manchester is about 35 to 45 minutes in the air and 2 hours 28 minutes on the road.
Further out the gap widens. Norwich is typically 40 to 50 minutes by helicopter against about 3 hours by car, and Newcastle 45 to 60 minutes against more than 3 hours. London takes about 60 to 70 minutes by helicopter and 3 hours 51 minutes by road, free-flowing. Road times are a floor and real journeys are usually slower. Our guide to helicopter against car journey times explains how we work these out.
The page map and table show every comparison, including Cambridge and Birmingham, each about 40 to 50 minutes away.
Why do people charter a helicopter in the Humber region?
The Humber is one of the busiest industrial estuaries in the country. The ports of Hull and Immingham, the chemicals and energy sites along the river, and the offshore wind supply chain at Hull's Alexandra Dock all generate short-notice travel that a train or a motorway does not serve well. Senior managers visit several sites in one day, and the drive across the Humber Bridge and out to the motorway network is slow for a diary that is full.
A helicopter turns that into a single hop. The same logic works for the same-day business trip: leave Humberside after an early start, hold a meeting in Leeds or Manchester, and be back for the evening. Our business helicopter charter page describes how groups of up to eight travel together.
Matches and race days work as well. Hull City, Hull FC and Hull KR all play at stadiums in the city, and Beverley Racecourse is nearby; for large race meetings further afield see our horse racing by helicopter guide.
What are the nearby alternatives to Humberside?
Other sites are close enough to matter. Sandtoft Airfield is about 18 nautical miles from Humberside, Retford Gamston about 28, and Leeds East Airport at Church Fenton about 34. Sandtoft and Retford Gamston are smaller airfields without jet capability; Leeds East takes light jets. We pick the one that suits your starting point and the size of your party.
Neighbouring city pages cover them: see helicopter charter York, helicopter charter Sheffield and helicopter charter Leeds. The wider picture is on the Yorkshire and the Humber region page, and every landing site we use is listed in the UK heliports and airfields directory.
How does a helicopter booking from Hull work in practice?
You send us the date, the places and the number of passengers. We come back with the helicopter type, the landing site and the times. Weights are needed for every passenger so the pilot can plan fuel and load. Luggage goes in soft bags where the hold is small, which is the case in most twin-engine types such as the Airbus H145 D3.
On the day, please arrive 10 minutes before departure. Landing at a private site, hotel or works yard in or around Hull is subject to landing permission and site suitability, and we check that before we confirm. For prices, the helicopter hire price guides explain what drives the cost. If you need a jet from the same field, see charter-private-jet.com.
If the flight is cancelled because of the weather, you pay nothing.
